I also wanted to mention that Robin Wiley, a LMT Key Clubber from Ponchatoula High School was elected as an 03-04 Key Club International Trustee. Also, a shout out to K Fam chair Brandy Bowen for her successful KCI\CKI Ice Cream Social at ICON.

That's it for now!

Welcome home, LaMissTenn!

I just got back from Indy this afternoon and I feel refreshed and energetic about the rest of our year together as a district. I think that this convention was what I needed to get back into the swing of things, and I am now looking forward to Summer Rally in August even more then ever!

Speaking of Summer Rally, please remember that registration for this event is technically due today! Because we realize that this was a quick deadline, especially considering that we had ICON this past week. Taking this all into account, Becki has been generous with extending deadlines to clubs having trouble, and the district board has decided to officially extend the deadline to July 15. Please resoect this new deadline as it will be a month before the event and the MSU crew will need to know at least that far in advance.

A few congrats and shouts out to some ICON winners. LSU took home 3rd place in the Gold Division Club Achievement, UNO took home 2nd place in Silver Division Club Achievement. LSU also got an honorable mention for club newsletter, Laurie Brown and Katie Mulreed were named an Outstanding Members of the Year for LaMissTenn, Lauren Call was inducted into the Society of Distinguisged Collegians, Lauren Call and Katie Mulreed received Service Recognition Awards. All of these awards were announced at the convention!

And now for the amendments.

Amendment 1 - To change "humankind" to "mankind" did not pass

Amendment 2 - Adding the word "fellowship" to the CKI Member Pledge so that it reads "...to foster compassion and goodwill toward others through service, leadership and fellowship,..."
Did Not Pass

Amendment 3 - Creating a dues structure and club levels based on total membership, i.e. a club with less than forty members would be a level one club, 40-59 members would be a level two, and so on up to level six. The clubs in levels two through six would receive breaks on the International dues in an amount of between $1 and $5 for each subsequent member increasing with each respective level. However, if a club goes down a level its sponsoring Kiwanis club is responsible for paying the elevated dues fee that would result to the International office.
Did Not Pass

Amendment 4 - Increasing International dues by $7 to a new amount of $25, and allowing the Circle K International Board to raise dues a maximum of 5% every two years if a 2/3 vote of the International Board of Trustees approves it.
The $7 increase did pass (on its second try) The 5% did not pass, but was instead replaced with an amendment written by Bobby Schroeder of UNO. I do not know the exact wording of his amendment, so I will ask him to post it as a comment for you to all review.

Amendment 5 - Establishing a budget advisory board committee to review the budget of CKI annually.
Did Not Pass

Also, the dual membership amendment did not pass in the House either.

So there you have it, a little update on ICON. Also, the 03-04 International President is Dan Conrod from the Illionois-Eastern Iowa district and the 03-04 International Vice President is Ryan Toth from the New Jersey district.

The following people were also elected to the International Board as trustees for 03-04:
Abbie Alsene
Matt Brent
Rory Duncan
Doug Smith
Aisha Mellish
Stacey Grajczyk
Erin Rowe
Steven Yates
Katie Triggs

We do not know yet which of these will be our counseling trustee, but we will be sure to post it as soon as we do know!

That about wraps it up for my update for now, I hope that you all enjoy the rest of your summer and hope to see you soon!
