HEY YOU GUYS! GUESS WHAT??? I am writing this to you from 3636 Woodview Trace, that's right -- the Kiwanis International Office!!! It's everything I thought it would be and more - it's just really weird actually meeting the people I've been talking to on the phone for years. It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but there are AWESOME things here, like the first Kiwanis plaque ever made, a computer containing the names of everyone who's ever gotten a Hixon, a Past President's Board Room, and tons of other cool stuff. I'm taking lots of pictures for you all. Thanks for the comment Bobby, we're checking out "I never" later (as well as this place called Steak N Shake.. more on that later). But, gotta go get my magazine/website picture taken & other stuff... talk to you all later.

Hey LaMissTenn!! Greetings from Indianapolis! I didn't think I had internet access here... but fortunately, thanks to one of my great roomates, I do!! So, my time here is very limited, it is already 2am Indy time and we have to get up at 6 (what else is new). Tomorrow we'll be taking our pictures for the International website & the magazine, so I'm excited about that. We'll also be touring the CKI Office (it is right next door to the hotel) and that will be really cool. All the fears I had about this weekend, are gone. CKI is going all out to make sure we have everything we need. Binders, pens, name badges, food are all provided for us - and they even have a room rented for us 24/7 stocked with board games, movies, and food. All the governors here are super cool, we have had SO much fun together -there's not one I don't like, and we all get along great. BTW, my roomates, the Governors of KT, Minnesota-Dakota, and Indiana give a great big shout out to LMT, along with the gov of EC&C!

I'm learning SO much about what other districts do differently than us (a lot) and things that we can do to make this year better. I can't wait to come home to LMT and share with you all everything that I've learned.

Until then,

Rebecca

Greetings, LaMissTenn!

Just wanted to get a shout out there to the following clubs who have turned in all of their board contact info to me already. These clubs are:
LSU
UL
Tulane
Mississippi State
UTM

If you are not on this list, it is because I am missing some info from you! It could be as much as the last names of your members, or as small as an email address. So please try to get that info to me asap so I can start getting a directory together for you to all be able to get in touch with each other!

I spoke to Becca this morning and she was somewhere in Illinois on her way to representing us all in Indianapolis, so keep her in your thoughts as she finishes out her trip and begins her governor training.

That's all for now, hope everyone has a great day! Remember I am here if you have questions!

Yeah, who's making who look bad? The following is an actual conversation that took place between myself and Becca this evening. It undoubtedly will cause much ridicule in the near future, but it's too funny not to share with you all. Now you may understand why I think we need to work on communication within the district!

The Search for Tucker Leigh...

alisonatlsu: hang on
Becca187: 713 587 8873 has been disconnected
Becca187: says the operator
Becca187: oh this is comedic
Becca187: we should write about this on the blog
alisonatlsu: i'm calling matt

Becca187: I hope you're putting this up there tonight
Becca187: so... 731 587 8873
Becca187: are you sure that's not 731 668 8873?? or 731 668 9565?
Becca187: i'm so confused
Becca187: I think I'll just call all of those and see who I get

alisonatlsu: i think i will
alisonatlsu: this is great stuff
Becca187: it sure is
Becca187: okay, so the newest tucker number doesn't ring
Becca187: it just gives a fast busy
Becca187: man he's like the hardest person to get in touch with
Becca187: we should get the discovery channel to tape a documentary on trying to find him
Becca187: and he probably doesn't even know he's missing

Momentary, dramatic pause here....followed by

Becca187: YAY!!!!!!!!!
Becca187: I FOUND HIM!!!!!!!!!!
Becca187: EUREKA!!!!!!!!
Becca187: I feel like the guy that discovered King Tut's tomb
Becca187: I'm saving this number to my phone, asap
alisonatlsu: what number did you call?????
Becca187: 7315878873
Becca187: but the first two or three times it was a fast busy
Becca187: and the fourth time this guy answered & I couldn't understand a word he was saying, it turned out to be tuckers roomate
alisonatlsu: i want you to scroll to the top of this chat
alisonatlsu: and look at the original number i gave you
alisonatlsu: because, i was right all along
alisonatlsu: i think we need a new governor!
Becca187: I think he thinks I'm nuts too, because I was like "I FOUND HIM!"
Becca187: no no no
Becca187: then before i called it
Becca187: you were like "no, it's the 713 one, i'm dyslexic, call that, yeah that should be it"
Becca187: so I didn't even bother with the first one
alisonatlsu: no no no
Becca187: not to mention, your original e-mail was wrong
Becca187: haha our first fight!
Becca187: how cute
alisonatlsu: you should always go with what i say first
alisonatlsu: it's in the records
alisonatlsu: :-)

Hope you all enjoyed that inside look at your new district leaders!

Dude, Alison's on the ball... stop it, woman - you're making me look bad! :) Anyways, I know I said I wouldn't post again before leaving for GATC, but I lied. But don't worry, unlike others of mine, this post has a purpose. At GATC this weekend, I'll be asked to fill out a "snapshot" of our District. This will be used primarily to give to International officer candidates who are running so that they will know a lot about us and will be prepared for our caucus rooms. But, this is a pretty good description of our district, and will be used for anyone that wants to know more about who WE are (other Governors, International board, International office, etc.) So... traditionally, this is filled out by the Governor, and it will be again this year (that'd be me, for those out of the loop :)) - BUT, I want your input. So I'm going to post a few of the questions, please comment & respond... I'd like to make sure I represent all of you well!

-Rebecca

P.S. - Does anyone else find it ironic that our two ads on the blogger site today are both for Rotary International?? :)

P.P.S. - I'm starting the "Governor Shoutouts" - Today is a special thanks to Lisa Ashby for going above and beyond the call of fellowship today, and offering to put me up for the night at a minutes notice, even though I won't need it- it is definitely appreciated.

1. Please list and discuss critical issues for your District

2. Please list and discuss the top 5 priorites for your District

3. How can your International board help you with the priorities listed above?

4. What does your district believe are the top 3 critical issues facing the International Organization?

5. What would your district like to see the 2003-2004 International Board accomplish?

6. What expectations does your district have for your assigned International Board member?

That's it, please e-mail your answers to me (if any) or comment, no later than April 15th.... however if there is a pressing issue you have, post it today, and I'll bring it with me to GATC! (I'll be sure to check the site before I leave at 8pm)

Well, I got the links up for you all to access the international and district websites. The comments are also up and you should have no problem linking to those and leaving your comments. Please do let me know if you experience any problems with any of these features!

I also set up links to mine and Becca's email accounts, you cannot see them until you are right over them, but I cannot figure out how to change that, so if anyone knows, please clue me in! Thanks and enjoy!

Hello LaMissTenn and welcome to the newest and hottest blog on the World Wide Web!

Hopefully, this will serve its purpose to keep you, the members of LMT CKI, informed and up to date on what's up with the district board. So, for my first post, I will publish a few little reminders and deadlines for you all.

Cabinet applications are available online at the district e-group page. If you are not a member of this group, you may become one by visiting the LMT webpage at www.lamisstenn.org/circle-k where there is a link to join the yahoo group. These applications are due to me at lmt_sec_treas@yahoo.com no later than May 5. The Cabinet will be appointed and notified following the board training and meeting May 9-11. It has been pointed out to me that there are some lines for signatures on the applications that I overlooked. You have a few choices here. You can scan it and send it via email, you can have those people email me that they know of and approve your application, or if neither of those is possible for you, just waive the signatures and we'll deal with it if we have to later on down the road.

Also, Bayou South and Delta Central need LTG's. If you are interested, send a typed up application to Becca at lmt_governor@yahoo.com by April 18. This person will be appointed by Governor Fox and the approved by the rest of the board before the May 9th training so that he/she will be able to attend.

I urge all of you to consider applying and to start getting pumped and ready for this year. Tomorrow morning, I will be doing some maintenance on this blog to get some links up to the district and international webpages, as well a link that will allow you all to comment. Please offer us some feedback if you have it, we are all new at this, but want to work and serve you all to the best of our abilities.

Thanks for taking a moment to read this, and please do let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything!

Interesting. I always knew Governors and Secretary Treasurers had a really close working relationship, but I wasn't aware that blogger would try to marry us!! If anyone knows how to fix that, please let me know. In other news, I'm currently packing to go to GATC, which is Governor's and Administrators Training Conference in Indianapolis, IN - home of the Kiwanis (and Circle K) Office. I'm scared, because I hope I represent the district well, and I'm also nervous about the long drive. As many of you know, I can't fly for several medical reasons (besides the fact that I'm scared silly of it) -- so, I'll be making the 14 hour drive with my mom, who was more than happy for a vacation, and my aunt. We leave tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10pm, just in time for me to arrive in Indy in time for Thursday's dinner. Although I'm nervous, I'm also excited. Many of the Governors who I'll be serving with have already e-mailed our listserve to introduce themselves, and I know several already, and look forward to meeting the rest. Hopefully they will like the leftover Tioga t-shirts, Goody Packets, District Convention shirts, and the neat picture/paper holders we got at the banquet, and I'll take home some cool stuff from their districts! Also, Ricky, Nick, and the other trustees will be there, as well as Mark and the other administrators, so I'm sure it will be a lot of fun, and I'll learn a lot! Well, I need to get back to packing, but wish me luck, and I'll be sure to contact everyone when I return from Indianapolis!

Well, here's my first post on this blog! I'm not really sure how it will work out yet, but hopefully it will let everyone feel like they know what's going on on the District Board as if we were calling or e-mailing you to tell you (which unfortunately, can't happen because of time constraints). But... we will keep you updated as much as possible, especially we we are attending events like GATC and Key Club Convention, etc. That's it, please let me know what you think about this idea! Oh, and a ton of thanks to Jeff Vollmer from Northwestern for helping with the idea.
